Description

The invention of algebra is the most powerful problem-solving tool ever created. Unfortunately, algebra is too often taught as an abstract concept with no practical uses because children are rarely taught to think algebraically.

Learn techniques for teaching algebraic thinking along with ways to incorporate real-life uses of algebra into your instruction. Ed Zaccaro provides detailed explanations and firsthand examples of how algebra benefits everyone. This session will give you the answer to the question frequently asked by children: When will we ever use algebra?

In this 1-hour course, you will learn:

  • How to help students think algebraically
  • When to use algebra
  • How algebra can save money
  • What to avoid when teaching algebra
  • Real-life applications of algebra

It was a good reminder to have students write down what they know and draw pictures/label when they can. Especially with online testing and so much work down on technology devices, it is hard for them to get out a paper and pencil and actually show work and try to work it out visually.
