Description

There is a far more engaging and effective way to teach high school English classes to gifted students than the common approach of teaching each class as a stand-alone unit. By merging Pre-AP English 1, 2 and AP Language into one cohesive program you can gain the maximum benefit for students.

This online course will show you how to focus each Pre-AP course around specific skill sets and themes, how to zero in on each individual student’s specific abilities and challenges, and how to incorporate all three Pre-AP courses into one program designed in such a way that students graduate with a full arsenal of writing and analytical skills that have been steadily built upon and expanded in a purposeful way.

  10. Angela – BURLESON ISD (verified owner)

This was a good review. Nothing really new except for possible websites.

  11. Kristin – PLANO ISD (verified owner)

Most of this information is pretty standard best practices for both GT and non-GT students. I think I got more interesting tips and good ideas from the teacher comments at the bottom than from the lecturer, Katherine Harrison.

  12. Sonja – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

This is a very insightful course that will help any beginning Pre-AP English 1 and 2 educator.

  13. Kourtney – ARLINGTON CLASSICS ACADEMY (verified owner)

    It was good.

  14. Allison – BASTROP ISD (verified owner)

This course had practical ways to ensure students are able to demonstrate understanding and grow in their abilities in the English classroom.

  15. Lee – EANES ISD (verified owner)

I appreciate the timing at the bottom. The presenters know what they are talking about, but I really didn’t learn all that much. My school doesn’t have a GT program, so I can’t do all of the things they do in their classes.

  16. Corinne – BASTROP ISD (verified owner)

Sounds like she was in a pretty affluent district, would be nice to hear from a Title 1 teacher.

  17. Kirsten – BASTROP ISD (verified owner)

I gleaned a few new ideas.

  18. Marly – WORTHINGTON CITY (verified owner)

The examples from this discussion were very general. I was really looking for strategies and more concrete resources. For example, what brainstorming or mind mapping techniques are used to help students build their arguments for the Antigone mock trials? What organizational guidelines are employed to facilitate the team writing assignments?

  19. Emily – SAN ANTONIO ISD (verified owner)

Over the course of an hour, I learned information that could have been shared in 10 minutes.

  20. Eric – ALAMO HEIGHTS ISD (verified owner)

The course is great for beginning teachers. I would have liked more specific strategies.

  21. Robert – Pilot (verified owner)

    Very straightforward, common sense information.

  22. Joshua – MCKINNEY ISD (verified owner)

    Good course

  23. Dr. Natalie – BEAUMONT ISD (verified owner)

The best part of this presentation is showing other districts how to set up an English Pre-Ap through AP curriculum program and use of their strategies and also being more flexible in types of assessments.

  24. Jamie – CONROE ISD (verified owner)

    Great

  25. IRMA – SOCORRO ISD (verified owner)

    Complex course but very interesting.

  26. Chrissy – DRIPPING SPRINGS ISD (verified owner)

Great ideas about English I and II PreAP programs!

  30. Cynthia – LAREDO ISD (verified owner)

    Excellent course

  31. Carla Mae – COLUMBUS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

This course was just a “here’s how I did it” course and not a research-based best practice course.

  32. KRISTIN – HALLETTSVILLE ISD (verified owner)

    Thanks.

  33. Lucero – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

    I love the idea.

    Beneficial

  36. Peter – TEAYS VALLEY LOCAL (verified owner)

Great way of showing how to build into an AP English class across the curriculum. I’m glad to have listened to the AP teacher prior to this section. It allowed me to better see how the alignment works and it’s incredible to see these people work together. Still a little lengthy, but good nonetheless. Definitely took a lot of ideas away from this one and the series.

  37. Tancy – Private Pay (verified owner)

    Very informative.

  38. Lauren – GALVESTON ISD (verified owner)

This was a great class with many resources.

  39. Jennifer – PORT CLINTON CITY (verified owner)

Very quick and filled with useful information.

This course was informative and shared some reassuring ideas and strategies about working with GT students in the Pre-AP setting.

  41. Denise – FLOUR BLUFF ISD (verified owner)

I wish I could have attended the workshop in person. There was pertinent and important information given for building a program and not just a class. I feel this is what our district truly needs.

  42. Donna – CONROE ISD (verified owner)

    interesting

  43. Kelsey – DELAWARE CITY (verified owner)

This course was fairly strong. I enjoyed the discussion about skills and strategies, but the course quiz at the end did not seem to actually assess the major take-aways from the course.

  44. Laura – HARMONY SCIENCE ACADEMY & SCHOOL OF SCIENCE – HOUSTON SOUTH 101846 OR 101862 (verified owner)

    great

Concise instruction with specific ideas to think about how to structure a GT/AP program.

  47. Rebecca – BURLESON ISD (verified owner)

    Short and sweet

    Hard test
