What good is a tool if we do not teach a child how to use it? If information is a tool, critical thinking skills are the key to making that information useful for our students. In this course, you will learn how technology in the 21st century has changed the way G/T students interact with information and how it helps them build critical thinking skills in the classroom and beyond.

The current cohort of high school students are the first in history to grow up as digital natives. That means they are the first generation to be surrounded by digital media since birth. At a time when information is more available than ever, critical thinking and creativity are at a low in our student populations. In Building Critical Thinking Skills and Infusing Creativity and Creative Thinking Skills into the Gifted and Talented Classroom, Bob Iseminger tackles these tough challenges with practical application for your G/T classroom.

In this 6-hour course, you will learn:

  • The definition of critical thinking
  • The many types of learning supported by the brain
  • Lower and higher level questioning The auditory/sequential and visual/spatial processes of the brain
  • Strategies for developing creative thinking
This course is aligned with 2016 ODE Teacher Competencies a, b, c, f, g and NAGC Teacher Preparation Standards 3.1, 5.1, 5.2.
