Description

According to Daniel Brillhard of J Taylor Education, the only wrong way to introduce the Depth and Complexity icons into your classroom is to choose not to introduce them.

In this interactive course, Mr. Brillhard provides an in-depth look at one of the easiest ways to introduce the icons: through Depth and Complexity frames.

By the end of this one-hour course, you’ll have a clear understanding of the following:

  • How to introduce Depth and Complexity frames to your students
  • How to use frames as a way to learn about your students — and help them learn about themselves
  • The two basic types of frames and how to use them
  • The two steps you need to know when using frames
  • How to adapt the frames to meet the needs of your students, including as a tool for differentiation
  • How to use the frames to create “iconic pathways” where one icon leads to another

349 reviews for Depth and Complexity Frames – Differentiating the Core Curriculum

  1. Oswaldo – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner)

I thought it was a great course. Helped me understand the value of presenting frames in a social studies classroom – especially when there is so much content-specific vocabulary in social studies, relative to other subjects or contents taught in school. Would definitely like to have access to a couple of templates so that way I could adjust them and use them in my classroom to help students that present at different learning levels.

  2. R – CLEAR CREEK ISD (verified owner)

I think the frames are a very helpful tool to use in conjunction with the icons.

  3. Justin – COLUMBUS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

Annoying I couldn’t see the icons

  4. Ruth – DEL VALLE ISD (verified owner)

I didn’t know it was going to feature elementary level teaching.

  5. Maria – NORTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

It is a very useful tool that we can use on any subject and adapt for the students level.

  6. Jennifer – CLEAR CREEK ISD (verified owner)

The teacher is excellent. He is making everything very clear through meaningful examples.

  7. Mariam – NORTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

    Very reflective.

  8. Cody – NORTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

I wish I had known that I needed a better base knowledge of the icons and their meanings. This course is about using the icons with frames, which was very helpful, but I felt a bit out of my element when the course would stop and ask me what icons I would use for this or that. Overall, it was very informative.

  9. Mayra – RIO GRANDE CITY GRULLA ISD (verified owner)

    very informative

  10. Madison – NORTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

I liked that there were many different examples of how to use the frames,a s well as ways todifferentiate instruction within the frames.

  11. Joseph – NORTHWEST ISD (verified owner)

A copy of the icons needs to be provided. I could not find one if it was.

  12. Natalie – BLANCO ISD (verified owner)

It was good. I think collaborative discussion – person to person – live – would make the learning stronger.

Good strategy for depth and questioning

Great ideas. I suggest you review both the content imperative and depth and complexity icons prior to beginning the course. Keep them handy throughout the presentation.

  15. John – WORTHINGTON CITY (verified owner)

This is one of the most practical and relevant lessons I have viewed on GTIgnite; it offers a structure that can be adopted into any discipline, adapted to mutliple student levels and multiple uses, and it is content-centric, helping students to extend their thinking about content and concepts.

  42. Nayla – ECTOR COUNTY ISD (verified owner)

This is a great course that helps with one way that depth and complexity icons are used: frames. I’ve used the 4-Corner Frayer Model in my classroom, and I think that the frames in this course are similar in concept, but the process and method of using them are enhanced with the icons. Make sure to take the Introduction to Depth and Complexity Icons course FIRST!

  43. Jesse – SAN FELIPE-DEL RIO CISD (verified owner)

The frame concept is a good way to look at how the students are able to use different icons to gain knowledge.

  44. Traci – LA GRANGE ISD (verified owner)
