Grade Level: Elementary & Secondary
Hours: 1

The difference between an Olympic runner and a weekend jogger isn’t simply that one runs faster than the other. Just as an Olympic athlete’s body trains and functions differently, the brain of a gifted student must be trained differently. Gifted courses should not just be harder versions of regular classroom work. They should be tailored and designed to stretch, challenge, and engage the brains of our gifted learners.

Description

Differentiation for gifted learners is not the same as differentiation in a regular classroom. In this 1-hour course, Richard M. Cash, Ph.D. draws from years of research and personal experience in gifted education to offer ideas for differentiating gifted courses. He discusses the various levels of the teaching and learning continuum and uses a framework to guide students toward greater learning autonomy through self-confidence.

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Use pace to accelerate instructional practice
  • Incorporate depth and complexity into your gifted courses
  • Increase sophistication in the course through critical questioning

  15. John – WORTHINGTON CITY (verified owner)

While the presenter opens with concepts that are not well-enough defined to be translated into daily classroom practice (and he’s not to be too harshly criticized for this since the session he is leading is a short one), he does, as he progresses, increasingly move into more practical application, as evidence by his use of specific examples and anecdotal explanations of how these examples worked in classrooms.
