Description

Gifted students all come from different backgrounds and have different influences that affect the ways they think and learn. Even though all gifted students may have some traits in common, we must be careful to treat them each as individuals and honor each one’s own unique background.

In this one-hour course, educators will explore:

  • Gender roles, their effects on students, and the main conflicts students have when it comes to societal expectations
  • Cultural differences encountered by minority gifted students
  • Ways to support all gifted students in the classroom and general school setting

ODE Competencies: D, E
NAGC Teacher Preparation Standards: 1, 2

  28. Nader – DALLAS ISD (verified owner)

Even that my school is predominantly Hispanic, there are different cultures embedded that I must be aware to allow students their full potential.

  29. Heather – DALLAS ISD (verified owner)

Based on the title, I thought that it was how to support gifted students all along the gender spectrum, in particular, those who do not identify strictly as male or female.

  30. Maira – DALLAS ISD (verified owner)

    Very informative & helpful.

  31. Amanda – DRIPPING SPRINGS ISD (verified owner)

This only scratches the surface of gender and culturally diversity. I had hoped for a deeper dive into what teachers are doing and hearing from diverse voices in the presentation. When offered in the future, there should be more voices speaking personally so we can be accurate in our information.

Nothing earth-shatteringly new, but great refresher with lots of research-based ideas.

  41. Blanca – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

A lot of talk about differences and challenges — good. Very little “how-to” — bad. This should be at least 2 hours so we can learn how to do something.

  42. Jonathan – WORTHINGTON CITY (verified owner)

Good, brief overview of gender differences

  43. Sylvia – UNITED ISD (verified owner)

I love it because it is very inclusive, and it provides many strategies to understand and acknowledge various situations of the minority groups I deal with in class.

  44. Roger – COLUMBUS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

Pretty good, especially for newer teachers or those with very limited experience in dealing with these issues.

  45. Leah – MARION CITY (verified owner)

Great information and helpful when considering resources for developing a gender/culturally diverse curriculum

  46. Brian – COLUMBUS CITY SCHOOL DISTRICT (verified owner)

It was perfectly adequate. The presenter was fine, though obviously nervous. The additional work was appropriate if not particularly deep. The quiz was pretty simplistic and could have been passed without viewing the presentation.

    Great info!
