In this 1-hour course, Lisa Van Gemert breaks down the four most common mental health issues that impact students. An advocate for gifted students, Ms. Van Gemert describes strategies for educators to support and equip gifted students who are struggling to cope in the classroom and out of it.

This course will enable you to:

  • Understand the complexity of adolescent mental health diagnoses 
  • Appreciate the interplay between therapy, medication and behavioral techniques

    Relevant information needed to help understand how to implement safe strategies for student that suffer mental health disorders. Also, realize that not all mental health disorders look the same or have the same symptoms. Medicine alone can actually be an onset to other mental health disorders.

    I find that mental health is often overlooked and as educators and society in general need to become more familiar with how to identify and how to cope with disorders with medication as a secondary course of action.
