Negative stereotypes are often associated with those raised in generational poverty. Of all these stereotypes, one of the most damaging in education today is that students from low-socioeconomic backgrounds are less likely to be gifted. Low verbal skills often mask true giftedness. It’s time to get past the stereotypes and begin uncovering giftedness in our low-SES students.

  22. Elizabeth – VAN WERT CITY (verified owner)

I enjoyed a scaffolded strategy that can help students get better at verbalizing their thoughts. I like that this strategy of mindsketching can be used at any age. It doesn’t feel like it will add a lot of time to planning (especially over the course of the 9 weeks of initial implementation.) I like that students are encouraged to draw to get their thinking going, but not draw for detail (if that makes sense.)
