Description

The invention of algebra is the most powerful problem-solving tool ever created. Unfortunately, algebra is too often taught as an abstract concept with no practical uses because children are rarely taught to think algebraically.

Learn techniques for teaching algebraic thinking along with ways to incorporate real-life uses of algebra into your instruction. Ed Zaccaro provides detailed explanations and firsthand examples of how algebra benefits everyone. This session will give you the answer to the question frequently asked by children: When will we ever use algebra?

In this 1-hour course, you will learn:

  • How to help students think algebraically
  • When to use algebra
  • How algebra can save money
  • What to avoid when teaching algebra
  • Real-life applications of algebra

  1. Sean – River View Local Schools (verified owner)

    Very good!

  2. Patrick – MIDLOTHIAN ISD (verified owner)

    Great course!

  3. Jim – CHARDON LOCAL (verified owner)

A lot of good ideas to help students to use the language of Algebra were given.

  4. Erin – DAYTON CITY (verified owner)

Interesting real-world connections. Nice detailed solutions with personal connections.

  5. Enos – ROYAL ISD (verified owner)

I like that the presenter provided real-life examples of algebra problems that students could be challenged to solve. However, it was not clear what the steps are to help the students make that transition. I was probably expecting some magic formula or secret to get students to be more deliberate in their thinking. So, although the examples were nice, it was not quite what I thought was going to be provided in this training.

  6. Kristy – Coshocton City Schools (verified owner)

He offers fun algebra questions to get kids thinking about how to use variables.

  7. Jeannie – TIPP CITY EXEMPTED VILLAGE (verified owner)

The instructor is easy to listen to and understand.

  8. JANET – PARMA CITY (verified owner)

I found the course interesting. He used real world situations as examples and used actual state test questions.

  9. Dean – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

It provided some fun examples to help students learn to think algebraically.

  10. Alison – FORT RECOVERY LOCAL (verified owner)

  11. Jan – NEW BREMEN LOCAL (verified owner)

Helping in understanding what is practical thinking in algebra.

  12. Julie – NORTHRIDGE LOCAL (verified owner)

Thinking algebraically is a complex at times. Looking for ways to reach the learner at a young age allows for them to think using numbers as variables within an expression.

  13. Teri – PROSPER ISD (verified owner)

    Great course!

  14. Jacob – Defiance City Schools (verified owner)

    Awesome!

  15. Julie – WYLIE ISD (verified owner)

I’m not sure how I would use this with my 6th graders.

  16. Noel – SOUTH TEXAS ISD (verified owner)

There should be more instruction on how to get students to think algebraically instead of just showing problems and giving solutions.

  17. Feliciana – LOS FRESNOS CISD (verified owner)

I would like to see him use more SAT questions. Love his strategies.

  23. Kristy – ALVARADO ISD (verified owner)

This did not help me for my very young scholars, but I enjoyed the content and presentation.

I thought the course was informative.

  30. Robert – CHARDON LOCAL (verified owner)

    Interesting problems presented.

  31. Zondra – ECTOR COUNTY ISD (verified owner)

I thought this course was going to give strategies on how to make students understand algebra better, but it just went through examples of algebra problems and real-life uses. I did find it interesting, however, but I was really looking for helpful tips on teaching algebra to struggling students.
